What is Artclub?

Artclub started with a handful of kids and a lot of Saturdays.

What began as drawing sessions with my son and a few of his friends quickly turned into trips across New York City to visit artist studios, museums, galleries, workshops, and neighborhoods that have inspired me throughout my life.

The more places we visited, the more obvious something became. Kids are naturally curious. They don't need to be convinced that art is interesting. They want to know how things are made, why people create them, and what a creative life actually looks like.

Over the years, I've been fortunate to work in graphic design, fashion, photography, as an artist’s assistant, and as a curator for eBay’s homepage. Along the way, I've met an incredible community of artists, designers, printers, photographers, architects, collectors, and makers. Artclub grew from a simple idea. What if kids could meet these people, too?

Drawing is part of what we do, but it's really just the beginning. A sketch can lead to a conversation about typography. A screen print becomes a visit to a print shop. A museum visit can inspire an afternoon of making.

The goal isn't to teach children to become artists. It's to help them see that creativity exists everywhere, and that there are countless ways to build a creative life.

New York is full of people making interesting things. Artclub simply gives kids a chance to meet them.
